Tolan said in statements on Al-Nazer program with the journalist Ahmed Shoubir, that he loves Emam Ashour and considers him a great player, explaining that he did not include him in the Arab Championship earlier due to his suffering from illness, and not for any technical or administrative reasons.
Tolan pointed out that Egyptian football is still suffering from a lack of professional mentality, considering that Imam Ashour’s behavior was strange and incomprehensible, especially since he plays in a large and stable club like Al-Ahly, stressing that the mistake is unforgivable due to the resulting insult to the club, the fans, his fellow players and the technical staff, as well as the player himself.
The former technical director praised the way Al-Ahly club dealt with the crisis, stressing that the administration acted with the utmost professionalism, and that Al-Ahly fans do not tolerate any transgression, regardless of the player’s name or position within the team.
Helmy Toulan concluded his statements by emphasizing that Imam Ashour “had the right to apologize” and considered the continuation of the sanctions despite his return a correct step. He also expressed his admiration for Al-Ahly’s acceptance of the player’s apology, within the framework of maintaining discipline within the team.
