Damietta Governorate witnessed the death of a young boy, aged two years and four months, after undergoing a dental filling procedure under general anesthesia in a private hospital, amid accusations from his family of medical negligence.

The father of a young Damietta victim of dental fillings: He was crying and unable to sleep because of the pain

Majed Hamed Al-Junaidi, the father of the young Muhammad, told Cairo 24 that his son was suffering from tooth pain as a result of cavities, commenting: It is difficult for me when he does not know how to sleep because of his toothache, and I went with him to a famous dentist to conduct the necessary examination.

He claimed that the doctor recommended filling three molars at once under general anesthesia, despite the child’s young age, and assured the family that the procedure was safe and did not represent any risk.

The father added that he insisted before the operation on a comprehensive examination by a pediatrician to check on his son’s health condition, explaining that the medical report proved that the child was in good health and did not suffer from any problems that would prevent anesthesia, claiming that despite submitting the report to the dentist, the latter insisted on performing the operation in a private hospital and under the supervision of an anesthesiologist of his choice.

The child’s father indicated that he paid a large sum of money for the operation, before his son entered the operating room, and about 40 minutes after the procedure began, he noticed the presence of an ambulance in front of the hospital, before the state of confusion escalated among the medical staff.

It was claimed that the child suffered a sudden deterioration in his health, while his transfer to an equipped government hospital was delayed, despite resuscitation attempts, and he later died.
