The new Criminal Procedure Code has ended the crisis of similarity of names within the courts of justice, by obligating judicial police authorities to prove the national number of the accused immediately upon determining his identity, starting from the new judicial year, which begins on the first of October 2026.
Obligation to record the national number of the accused in the records and judgements
Article (27) of the law stipulates that judicial officers must record the complete national ID data, attaching an official extract to it in the arrest reports, in order to ensure the accuracy of identifying the identity of the accused from the first moment of the legal procedures.
The same article also required that conviction rulings include all the identifying information of the convict, most notably the national number, in a step aimed at preventing any confusion or errors that may result from similarity of names, especially in cases in which judgments are issued in absentia.
