After many years of absence from the global scene, the national team is preparing Egypt women’s handball To record his first appearance in the World Championship, scheduled to be held in Germany and the Netherlands in 2025, based on a young generation that has achieved remarkable leaps over the past years.

A long history of attempts…and a first step after fifty years

andEgypt has participated in only eight editions of the African Championship since its founding, and has never exceeded fifth place, which has made the dream of qualifying for the World Cup almost impossible for fifty years.
But expanding the number of teams participating in the World Championship to 32 teams opened the door for the Pharaohs to write a new chapter in the history of the game locally.

A return after an absence and the beginning of a new generation

The Egyptian national team returned to continental competitions in 2022 after an absence of 10 years, achieving eighth place in the African Championship, and although the result came amid difficult circumstances, the indicators were positive, especially after the young women’s national team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup and ranked seventh, and it is the same generation that today leads the senior national team towards the world level.

The national team’s players also gained additional experience by excelling with their clubs, led by Al-Ahly, which strengthened their readiness to move to the international level.

A historic achievement through the 2024 African Beach Handball Championship

Egypt took the most important step towards qualification when it excelled in the 2024 African Beach Handball Championship, achieving 4 victories in the preliminary round against one loss to Senegal (21-16).
In a dramatic match, the national team snatched a historic victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo (22-21) in the quarter-finals, securing its place in the semi-finals and thus qualifying for the 2025 Women’s Beach Handball World Championship.

Despite the loss to Angola in the semi-finals (36-22), and then to Tunisia in the bronze medal match (25-22), the participation represented a major shift in the course of the game at the women’s level.

A young team… with unlimited ambition

The Egyptian national team includes one of the youngest rosters in the tournament. Of the 35 players on the expanded roster, only four players were born before the year 2000, which means that Egypt will rely in the 2025 World Cup on a very young team, but it has high potential, and most of its members previously participated in the 2022 Youth World Cup and the 2024 Women’s World Cup.

A tough draw in the fifth group

The Egyptian team fell into a strong group that includes:

Holland

Austria

Argentina

They are all teams with extensive experience in the tournament, which makes Egypt’s task complicated in its first appearance, but it is also an opportunity to gain confidence and global exposure.

Strong preparations… and close results in North Macedonia

The team continued its preparations through a friendly tournament in North Macedonia, where it played three matches that showed its tendency to fight until the last moments:

Loss to Greece (25-22)

Loss to Tunisia (25-24)

Victory over North Macedonia (19-18)
