Gold prices in Egypt and the world
Gold prices rose on Wednesday, touching their highest levels in more than a week, after recently released US economic data reinforced expectations that the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) will move to lower interest rates next December.
Gold increased in spot transactions by 0.8%, recording $4,161.42 per ounce, after recording earlier in the session its highest level since November 14. US gold futures contracts for December delivery also rose by 0.4%, reaching $4,158.80.
“The focus shifted from the dollar to interest rate cuts in December,” noted Marex analyst Edward Mayer, explaining that the price of gold rose despite the stability of the dollar index.
The yellow metal received additional support from news that Kevin Hassett is the most likely candidate to head the Federal Reserve, which strengthened expectations of monetary easing favored by US President Donald Trump.
The CME Group’s Fed Watch tool indicates that markets currently expect 83% to cut interest rates next month, compared to only 30% a week ago, which reflects a radical shift in traders’ beliefs.
