At the beginning, Sheikh Muhammad Hamouda, one of the scholars of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, said that there is no problem in presenting or discussing atheism in a film, explaining that some fear for Islam from atheism, but Islam does not fear for itself from atheism, and that Islam, since its revelation from God, has discussed atheism, and that this is found in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet as evidence.
Atheism is mentioned in the Holy Quran
He pointed out that God said in His Noble Book, “And to God belong the most beautiful names, so call upon Him by them, and leave behind those who atheist in His names. They will be recompensed for what they used to do.” Atheism is clearly and explicitly mentioned here, and it is stated in the Holy Qur’an, “Indeed, those who atheist in Our verses are not hidden from Us.”
Confronting atheism is not a confrontation
He pointed out that when our Master Muhammad came to him, some of the companions said that there were some questions that came to themselves, and they could not talk about them or ask about them, so the response of the Holy Prophet was, “This is clear faith,” that confronting atheism is not by confrontation, but by argument, reason, dialogue, thinking, and the search for the truth.
One of the Al-Azhar scholars explained that every person has the right to raise religious issues in his mind in order to reach the truth, as there is nothing contrary to the thinking of some people on religious matters, and this is what the Holy Prophet described as high faith.
Sheikh Muhammad Hamouda added, during his interview on the “Question Mark” program, presented by the journalist Musab Al-Abbasi, that a lot of people are talking about the movie The Atheist after it stopped for a year, stressing that everything mentioned in the movie is considered repeated, and nothing new in it, that what was shown in the movie is present in books of interpretation, and that he believes that the movie The Atheist by writer Ibrahim Issa gets a very good grade, and that he has no objection to this movie and is not afraid of it.
The atheist raises important issues
He pointed out that the movie The Atheist raised important issues and presented them to the audience, and that the atheist in the movie is named Hafez, and this is evidence that he does not understand, and at the end of the movie we know who will pray for his father.
One of the Al-Azhar scholars explained that the author did not accept atheism, nor did the director, and that the lesson is in the end, so if the film is watched until the end, it will become clear where the truth is.
Imad Yousry, the art critic, also revealed new details about the movie The Atheist, explaining that 12 years ago a movie was presented called “The Atheist,” starring the artist Sabry Abdel Moneim, and it did not achieve any gains at this time, and that it was removed from cinemas.
The art critic added that 12 years after the first film, writer Ibrahim Issa made a new film with the same name in agreement with producer Ahmed Al-Sabki.
He pointed out that there are some theaters that remove the film from them, and that this is not due to the public’s lack of interest in the film, but because the film was released at the time of exams, so the choice of timing for the film was incorrect.
He pointed out that the reason the film was not shown before was due to censorship of artistic works, despite Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s approval of the film, but a year ago this film was banned without reasons from the works.
