Dr. Muhammad Abdullah, a professor and physician of obstetrics and gynecology, said that conducting research or studies on fetuses is available in some cases, but it is done according to specific controls and procedures, and in designated places within medical colleges or in morgues and specialized departments, and not within private clinics.
The obstetrician and gynecologist explained in special statements to Cairo 21 that the goal of preserving embryos in these cases is scientific and academic only, and requires obtaining official permits, while adhering to the medical and legal procedures regulating that.
Dr. Muhammad Abdullah added that keeping such fetuses also requires written approval from the family of the case, explaining that some cases may result from an official abortion, such as the death of the fetus inside the womb and its legal medical abortion. In this case, the fetus must be buried according to the established procedures, but if the purpose is academic, a clear and written approval from the family must be given.
The professor of gynecology confirmed that disposing of fetuses randomly or outside legal frameworks is a dangerous matter and exposes those responsible to legal accountability, given that it constitutes a violation of medical procedures and regulations.
Dr. Muhammad Abdullah pointed out that the competent authorities and forensic medicine are the decisive factor in evaluating any incident of this kind, by determining the nature of the embryos, the conditions for their preservation, and the extent of compliance with legal and medical procedures.
