The Louvre Museum in Paris was closed on Monday due to a strike by employees, who have organized several strikes over the past weeks to protest salaries and working conditions, according to what the museum announced on its website.
The Louvre Museum in Paris is closed
The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world, but it was severely damaged as a result of a major theft that occurred last October, when 4 thieves managed to steal jewelry worth $102 million, and the jewelry is still missing until now.
The management of the Louvre Museum in the French capital, Paris, continued to close the museum last month for several days, due to a workers’ strike against the backdrop of crises in wages and working conditions, as well as the famous theft incident in October.
Reuters said at the time that the Louvre Museum in Paris remained closed for the third day, at a time when workers continued their discussions about whether to extend a strike that began on Monday to protest wages and working conditions.
The strike came after a spectacular jewelry theft that took place in October, in addition to recent structural problems, including a water leak that damaged antique books, which revealed glaring security gaps and highlighted the deteriorating condition of the museum buildings.
The unions said that Louvre workers are suffering from work pressure and mismanagement, demanding new appointments, wage increases, and redirection of spending.
