A 19-year-old Italian student, from… Egyptian originsHe died as a result of his serious wounds, after being stabbed with a knife inside a classroom at the Einaudi-Kyodo Vocational Institute in the city of La Spezia, northern Italy, in a shocking incident that shook the educational community and public opinion.
The local health authority in La Spezia (ASL 5) confirmed the death of the young man, Zaki Rushdi Safwat Abanoub Youssef, after undergoing emergency surgery in an attempt to save his life, as a result of severe internal bleeding. Although he passed the first critical stage after the surgery, the seriousness of the injuries that affected the liver, diaphragm, and lung led to a deterioration in his health condition, and he died in the intensive care department of Sant’Andrea Hospital.
The murder of an Italian student of Egyptian origin
The crime occurred on the morning of January 16 inside the classroom and in front of the victim’s classmates, causing a state of panic and panic inside the school. According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Italian police, the incident came against the backdrop of an emotional dispute related to a girl, after tensions and mutual threats in the previous days.
The police arrested the perpetrator, a student of the same age of Moroccan nationality, who resides legally in Italy and does not have a criminal record. Investigations revealed that the accused brought a long knife from his home and hid it inside his school bag. Threatening messages were also found that he believed he had sent before carrying out the attack, which could lead to a charge of premeditated murder.
Immediately following the accident, ambulance teams and the Red Cross intervened, and the victim was transported in a very critical condition to the hospital, after suffering massive blood loss and a temporary heart stop, before his health condition worsened and he died hours later.
The incident sparked a wave of political reactions, as Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini called for tightening security measures inside schools and adopting a zero-tolerance policy for the introduction of weapons.
Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara also described the incident as very serious, stressing that educational institutions must be a safe environment based on dialogue and respect.
This crime remains one of the bloodiest incidents in Italian schools in recent times, amid widespread demands to enhance security and prevent violence among students.
