If the sighting is confirmed, Wednesday, February 18 will be the first day of Ramadan, and if the sighting is not possible, Thursday will be the first day of the month.
Fatwa announces the date of the first day of Ramadan
Astronomical calculations issued by the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research announced that the date of the arrival of the month of Ramadan 2026 in Egypt is expected to be Thursday, February 19, 2026, so that this day will be the first day of fasting according to astronomical calculations, with the blessed month continuing until the evening of Friday, March 20, 2026.
According to astronomical calculations, the number of hours of fasting in Cairo will be approximately 12 hours and 41 minutes, but the number of hours of fasting varies from one governorate to another, and the number of hours of fasting can be calculated by subtracting the timing of the dawn call to prayer from the timing of the Maghrib call to prayer according to each governorate.
