The Israeli Ministry of Health issued new directives recommending the wearing of masks in closed and public places for groups most at risk, amid fears of an exceptionally severe flu season, which has been described globally as… flu Superhero.
The Ministry also directed medical teams to wear masks when dealing with patients belonging to these categories, according to Israeli media.
Super flu worries Israel
The Walla Hebrew website said that Israel has witnessed a large wave of influenza in recent weeks, and according to data from the Health Center for Disease Control, 513 new cases of influenza type A and one case of influenza type B were recorded in 14 hospitals under monitoring during the past week. At the same time, a significant increase in the number of influenza cases reported at community clinics was observed.
The Israeli Ministry of Health confirmed that during the past three weeks, four children died from influenza, three of whom had not received vaccination, and one of whom was suffering from serious chronic diseases.
Since the start of the season, 633 children have been hospitalized due to influenza, including 35 in intensive care. Among adults, about 900 patients have been hospitalized since the beginning of the season, of whom 36 required intensive care.
