The Associated Press quoted American officials as saying that there are ongoing discussions regarding Washington and Tehran holding a new round of negotiations, and the agency quoted a diplomat from a mediating country that the two parties have already agreed to hold a new round of talks.

The officials indicated that the new round may be held next Thursday, pointing out that the location of the meeting has not yet been finally decided, as the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, emerges once again as an option to host these talks, while the Swiss city of Geneva remains a strong possibility to host the anticipated round.

Sources reported that Tehran and Washington are considering moving towards a second round of direct talks, as part of efforts to reach an agreement aimed at ending the six-week war, before the ceasefire ends next week.

Two American officials and a person familiar with the developments reported that the two sides are discussing holding new negotiations face-to-face, while a diplomat from an intermediary country indicated that the two parties may have already agreed to hold the new round, without an official announcement yet.
According to the same sources, consultations are still ongoing regarding the details of the upcoming tour, including the level of representation in the participating delegations, amid the lack of clarity as to whether it will be held with the participation of the same leaders.
