According to security sources, at approximately 12:05 p.m. Moscow time, an unknown person approached traffic police officers of the North-Eastern District of Moscow, who were patrolling in a police car near the courtyard of Savelovsky Train Station, after which an explosive device exploded.

A statement published on the Interior Ministry’s Max channel said: “Initial reports indicate that one of the traffic police officers died as a result of his injury, and the second officer is receiving treatment in the hospital.”

The Ministry of Interior later announced that after examining cameras in the explosion area, police officers concluded that the perpetrator had died at the scene.

The Ministry had stated immediately after the explosion that “Moscow police officers, in cooperation with their colleagues from law enforcement agencies, are determining all the circumstances of the incident and searching for the perpetrator. Security forces were deployed to determine his whereabouts, and an investigation was opened to find out the circumstances and details of the incident.”
