published Official Gazette Prime Minister’s Decision No. 292 of 2026 regarding the project of extending the second line of the metro from Shubra El Kheima station to the ring road within the Qalyubia Governorate as a public benefit project, within the framework of the state’s plans to expand mass transportation and improve mobility services for citizens.
The second line extension project for the metro
The decision stipulated that the project would include all facilities and services related to its operation, including the implementation of stairs, elevators, and facilities necessary to serve passengers, in accordance with the explanatory memorandum, cadastral maps, and attached inventory lists.
The decision also included ending the allocation of lands and real estate owned by government agencies within the scope of the project, and reallocating them to the National Tunnels Authority, in preparation for the implementation of the project’s construction work.
The project comes within the state’s efforts to develop the subway network, reduce traffic congestion, and improve connectivity between Greater Cairo and Qalyubia Governorate, thus contributing to facilitating the movement of citizens and supporting urban and economic development in the areas served.
