A citizen named Adel Zamel, accompanying a patient at the Damanhour Oncology Institute affiliated with the Ministry of Health in Beheira Governorate, alleged that he was subjected to verbal abuse by one of the hospital’s intensive care doctors, and his refusal to coordinate the transfer of his brother to another hospital with a specialized neurological care bed available through the Ministry of Health’s care project, despite the seriousness of the case and its urgent need for transfer, according to medical reports.
A citizen claims that a care doctor at the Damanhour Oncology Institute refused to coordinate a neurological care bed
Adel Zamel told Cairo 24 that his brother, an oncology patient receiving radiation treatment at the institute, suffered a sudden fainting episode last Tuesday, after which he was transferred to the hospital emergency room to undergo the necessary tests. After two days of medical evaluation, the results showed that he had suffered a severe stroke in the brain, which could lead to complete paralysis of the limbs, which necessitated, according to medical reports, the need to immediately transfer him to specialized care in the brain and nerves.
He pointed out that his brother remained confined in the institute’s oncology care unit, which he said was not specialized to deal with his serious condition, which prompted him to contact the Egypt Care 137 platform to coordinate an intensive care bed outside the hospital. According to his account, the platform requested that coordination be done through the doctor responsible for the case inside the institute.
The citizen explained that when he went to the doctor and asked him to begin coordination procedures, the latter refused – as he claimed – and told him: “We are not coordinating anything,” before the situation developed into a verbal attack by the doctor against him, according to his complaint.
Adel Zamel confirmed that he preferred to avoid escalation inside the hospital, and resorted to submitting an official complaint to the Ministry of Health to take the necessary measures regarding the incident.
