Juhayna Central Hospital in Sohag Governorate received a 6-month-old baby girl, in critical condition, after she was stung by a highly toxic scorpion, and a large, highly toxic scorpion was found in her clothing.
Saving a girl from a scorpion sting in Sohag
The child arrived at the reception and emergency department suffering from severe fatigue, as the symptoms at first seemed similar to a bronchitis, but the alertness of the treating physician and her lack of confidence in the initial diagnosis led her to suspect a case of poisoning.
During close examination and follow-up, a live scorpion was discovered inside the girl’s clothes, and within a few moments symptoms of a severe scorpion sting appeared, putting the girl in a very critical condition.
Immediately, the medical team moved quickly and efficiently, giving 15 doses of anti-scorpion serum, which resulted in a noticeable and rapid improvement in the child’s health condition, and her life was saved at an extremely dangerous time.
The child is still subject to close medical follow-up in the hospital, with the necessary measures being taken and heart enzymes monitored during the coming period, to fully ensure the stability of her health condition.
