The Ministry of Health and Population announced that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative to examine and treat chronic diseases and early detection of kidney disease has achieved a new achievement by examining 20 million 168 thousand and 842 citizens nationwide since its launch in September 2021 until today.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s official spokesman, explained that the initiative operates through 3,601 primary care units distributed across all governorates, and mainly targets citizens over the age of 40, in addition to young people starting from 18 years of age who have a history of chronic diseases, with the aim of early diagnosis and providing high-quality health care for free.

Health: More than 20 million and 168 thousand citizens were examined within the presidential initiative for early detection of chronic diseases and kidney disease

Abdul Ghaffar stressed that every citizen is subject to comprehensive examinations that include measuring blood pressure, random and cumulative sugar levels, blood fat levels, kidney function, and body mass index, while providing awareness sessions on risk factors and developing a periodic follow-up program whose dates are determined according to the result of the initial examination.

He pointed out that cases that are discovered to have high blood pressure or diabetes are given free medications monthly from the health unit itself, while cases that need specialized intervention are immediately referred to hospitals to complete treatment at no cost, which directly contributes to reducing the risk of chronic kidney failure.

He added that the initiative relies on the latest global guidelines prepared by a joint scientific committee between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, with continuous training for medical staff on the use of early detection devices for kidney disease. If the infection is confirmed, the patient is referred directly to hospitals to receive the necessary treatment entirely at the expense of the initiative.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar called on all citizens who suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes, or who have a family history, to visit the nearest health unit to benefit from the initiative’s services and check on their health for free, stressing that early detection is the only way to avoid serious complications, because health is not a number… rather, it is the state’s first priority.
