Companies often focus on reducing production costs for business computers, so they use the same components across multiple models to reduce development and assembly costs.
This method applies to the new ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 computer, as Lenovo uses the same main board in several other models, such as the ThinkPad P16s Gen 4, as well as the smaller versions ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 and ThinkPad P14s Gen 6.
When you open the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4, it is clear that there are unused interior spaces, especially next to the fan. Although the device comes with good specifications in general, such as support for installing a SIM card, two SO-DIMM random memory ports, and only one SSD port, designing a motherboard specifically for a 16-inch device would have provided enough space to add a second SSD port, in addition to a second fan.

This change could have increased processor performance, while at the same time reducing fan noise and surface temperatures, which currently reach more than 50 degrees Celsius in the hot zone at the bottom of the device.
On the other hand, the issue of keyboard quality stands out, especially since the base of the device is relatively large and thick. It is known that the quality of Lenovo keyboards has declined in recent years due to the trend towards thinner designs.
It is true that the T16 benefits from the rigidity of its base and offers a comfortable typing experience, but compared to the 2018 ThinkPad
The current T16 keyboard uses a 1.5mm travel with flat keycaps, part of a policy of uniformity of parts between devices. We hope that Lenovo will pay attention to this point in future releases.
