Liu Zuohu, known as Pete Lau, co-founder and CEO of OnePlus, is facing legal charges in Taiwan after authorities issued an arrest warrant for him. This comes after a period of relative absence of the CEO from media appearances, despite his leadership of the company since its founding in 2013.
On Tuesday, the Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office in Taipei announced the issuance of an official document accusing two Taiwanese citizens of providing assistance in illegal recruitment operations linked to the CEO of OnePlus.
According to prosecutors, the company, under Lau’s leadership, employed more than 70 Taiwan-based engineers to work in the areas of software development and testing.

The problem is that these recruitment operations took place without prior government approval, which is in direct violation of the “Cross-Strait Relations” law regulating transactions between China and Taiwan. So far, there has been no official comment from Liu Zuohu or OnePlus regarding these accusations.
