Sony is preparing to hold a new launch event dedicated to audio products on January 21. The event begins at 4 pm UTC time (8 am PT) and will be broadcast live on YouTube.
Expectations indicate that the company will unveil the new generation of LinkBuds headphones, instead of the long-awaited flagship WF-1000XM6 headphones.
Although the teaser clearly hid the design features, it showed the headphones attached around the model’s ear in the thumbnail image. The event’s slogan, “Discover a new form of listening,” also suggests presenting an unconventional design compared to the usual in-ear headphones.
According to what Dealabs revealed, Sony is likely to announce the LinkBuds Clip headphones, codenamed WF-LC900, which come with an open design that wraps around the earlobe. A list published by a retailer in Indonesia also revealed the design and basic specifications of the new headphones.
The headphones are expected to support automatic volume control, 360 Reality Audio technology, as well as the effect of playing music in the background, features previously seen in other LinkBuds versions. The leaks also indicate that the headphones are equipped with dual microphones, artificial intelligence technologies to improve call quality, and bone conduction sensors.
The specifications also include the ability to customize the sound via a 10-band audio equalizer within the Sony application, support for simultaneous connection with two devices, in addition to water splash resistance with the IPX4 standard.
As for the battery, the leaked information indicates that the headphones provide up to 9 hours of continuous playback, with another 28 hours added via the charging case, bringing the total usage time to 37 hours.
The LinkBuds Clip headphones will be available in four colors: black, beige, sage green, and lavender, with an expected price of about $230, or 200 euros.
Regarding the flagship WF-1000XM6 headphones, rumors indicate that their launch date may be later next February.
