Shure introduced a USB-C version of the MV88 microphone during CES 2026, to meet the needs of users of recent iPhones that have ditched the Lightning port, as well as to expand compatibility to include Android phones and other devices. The new microphone is available now for $159.

The MV88 is a small-sized stereo condenser microphone that can be installed directly on a phone, tablet, or laptop with a USB-C port.

The microphone provides a clear improvement in sound quality compared to the microphones built into the devices, which makes it suitable for recording sound for videos or audio clips easily and without complicated settings.

Shure apps also support control of microphone settings, including presets, gain adjustment, five-band EQ, limit, compression, high-pass filters, and volume metering to maintain recording quality.

The microphone has an Auto Level Mode that automatically adjusts the gain level to protect recordings from sound that is too loud or too low. It also includes a Real-Time Denoiser feature to reduce background noise.

The MV88 USB-C features four selectable polar modes: Stereo, Cardioid, Bidirectional, and Raw Mid-Side, with the ability to tilt the microphone to face up or toward the user.

The microphone is an excellent alternative to lapel mics, which require close proximity to the mouth to avoid picking up ambient sounds, while the MV88 can pick up sound in large spaces such as concerts or outdoor settings while maintaining sound clarity and quality.

The device is characterized by ease and speed of setup, as it is enough to install it on the phone or any device equipped with a USB-C port, and the registration process is ready after a few simple steps. Shure also includes a small bag to protect the microphone during transport, reducing the risk of damage when placed in a bag or carried with other devices.
