He received the President of the National Authority For Egyptian RailwaysToday, Alicia Hammer, Head of the Services Sector at the American International Company Waptech, one of the largest companies specialized in technology and maintenance of tractors and railway systems, and her accompanying delegation, to discuss prospects for enhancing joint cooperation and developing periodic maintenance programs for the fleet of tractors operating on the network.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed plans to support the tractor fleet with the latest preventive maintenance technologies and modern digital systems, ensuring the reduction of field malfunctions, raising operating efficiency, and improving the level of service provided to citizens. Training programs for the Authority’s employees and benefiting from the company’s global expertise in supporting the comprehensive maintenance path system were also discussed.

The meeting touched on the project of establishing a marginal workshop for the maintenance of new tractors, which aims to unify the maintenance system under one roof that includes:
- Regular maintenance.
- Unscheduled maintenance.
- Heavy repairs.
- Complete manufacturing of the main components in accordance with the highest international specifications and standards.

A marginal workshop for maintaining railway tractors
The marginal workshop includes 7 fully equipped maintenance tracks capable of accommodating 19 tractors at one time, distributed between light and heavy maintenance and wheel turning operations, in addition to a component manufacturing workshop with an operational capacity to process 11 major components in parallel, ensuring a reduction in dwelling time and raising the fleet readiness rate.
The workshop also contains warehouses for light and heavy spare parts with an area of 2,200 square meters to ensure the continuous availability of operational needs, in addition to the administrative building and service facilities with a capacity of more than 250 engineers and technicians, which were implemented in accordance with the highest standards of quality, safety and environmental requirements.
The project is the result of close cooperation between the Ministry of Transport, the National Railway Authority of Egypt, the Holding Company for Road, Bridge and Land Transport Projects, and Waptec International Company, with the aim of raising the readiness of the fleet, reducing the time when tractors are out of service, and enhancing the level of reliability within the National Railway Authority.
At the conclusion of the visit, Alicia Hammer and her accompanying delegation toured the Railway Museum and Egypt Station in Cairo, where she expressed her appreciation for the great development witnessed by the Egyptian railway system, and for the efforts made to improve operation and maintenance services in accordance with best international practices.
