A new version of the R36 Max portable gaming device is coming. Referred to as the R36 Max 2, the new device has several upgrades over its predecessor, although it retains some of the unusual design elements of the original device.

It seems that a new version of the R36 Max will be released soon. As a reminder, the R36 Max arrived last year with some unusual details compared to competing classic laptops (current price of $49.95 on Amazon). The device had a 4-inch screen with a 1:1 aspect ratio and a native resolution of 720p.

Now, I discovered a channel Retro Gaming with Deadfred Information about the so-called R36 Max 2. Surprisingly, the new mobile device is expected to retain the old Rockchip RK3326 chip. Therefore, the R36 Max 2 will only have four ARM Cortex-A35 CPU cores and a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU at its disposal.

However, the device will expand to include a screen IPS Size 4.5 inches. Not only that, but the company changed the aspect ratio to 4:3 with a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels. It can be said that the company has also improved ergonomics by changing the locations of the D-pad and left control stick.

Pricing and availability are still unknown at this time. However, the leaked image likely comes from a retail listing. Hence, we expect a global launch to happen within the next month or so.
