Today in China, Huawei unveiled the Mate 80 Pro phone as part of a huge launch event. This phone is the middle child in the Mate 80 series, and it is the only one of the four that includes the new Kirin 9030 processor from Huawei.

In contrast, the Mate 80 uses the older Kirin 9020 processor, while the Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design rely exclusively on the Kirin 9030 Pro.

It is worth noting that the Mate 80 Pro can be configured with a Kirin 9030 Pro processor as well, but only with 16GB RAM versions. As a result, the Mate 80 Pro may become around 40% more powerful compared to the Mate 80 when choosing the Kirin 9030 Pro processor.

However, the performance of the Mate 80 Pro remains lower compared to the latest flagship phones such as the iPhone 17 Pro, Find X9 Pro, or even the Galaxy S25 Plus when using the Pro processor.

The Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro share the same 6.75-inch LTPO AMOLED display, with a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, up to 8,000 nits brightness, and a resolution of 1,280 x 2,832 pixels.

As for the Mate 80 Pro, it includes 50-megapixel main rear cameras, 40-megapixel ultra-wide angle, 48-megapixel macro telephoto, and a 13-megapixel front camera, supported by a 3D sensor for face unlock. It also features a variable aperture of f/1.4-f/4.0 with optical image stabilization (OIS) in the 4x telephoto camera, just like its Pro Max sibling.

The Mate 80 Pro also outperforms the regular version by supporting 80W wireless charging and 100W wired charging, despite retaining the same 5,750 mAh battery.

The price of the Mate 80 Pro starts at 5,999 Chinese yuan (~$847) for the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, while other versions of up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage can be chosen at a price of 7,999 yuan (~$1,129).

So far, Huawei has not confirmed any international launch plans for the rest of the Mate 80 series.
