Google will ban election ads after polls close on November 3
The company is trying to limit misinformation about the voting result

Google will ban advertisers from running election-related ads after Election Day.

In an email to advertisers, the company said the change is due to the “unprecedented” number of votes that will be counted after November 3, Axios reported.

While the winner of a US presidential election is often announced on election night, this year the process is expected to take longer as more people vote by mail due to the pandemic.

So these may give political campaign ads for Donald Trump or Joe Biden an opportunity to run ads prematurely claiming victory and spreading confusion about the results.

To limit misinformation about the outcome of the vote, Facebook recently announced that it would block ads from political campaigns that declare early wins.

The company will also ban new political ads in the week before the election.

Google said it is its policy to prohibit ads that refer to elections or their results or that target people based on election-related search queries.

According to Axios reports, the ban will apply to ads served across the company’s ad serving platforms, which include Google Ads and YouTube.
