Last August, Google revealed a smart feature capable of automatically recognizing the user’s presence in a meeting room that includes more than one person, so that it turns on Companion Mode and joins Google Meet calls automatically. At the time, the feature was only available on desktop and laptop computers.

Today, Google announces the expansion of the feature to include Android phones and iOS devices, and will be gradually rolled out to users over the next two weeks.

The feature simplifies joining group meetings, as the device uses the microphone to pick up ultrasonic signals within the meeting room, allowing you to automatically log into the conference call while avoiding interference or echo caused by other devices in the same place.

The automatic recording feature for meeting rooms is now available through the Google Meet and Gmail applications on Android and iOS.

This requires running Meet version 336.0 on Android and iOS, or the Gmail app version 2025.12.01 on Android, and version 6.0.251201 on iOS. The feature is available to all Google Workspace and Workspace Individual subscribers.
