With Lyria 3, Google is integrating a music creation tool into the Gemini app for the first time. Users can create 30-second songs complete with auto-generated lyrics, vocal vocals, and cover art simply by entering a text prompt or uploading an image. The feature is currently available in beta version of Gemini.

Google is turning its Gemini AI platform into a versatile creative tool. By integrating Lyria 3, developed by Google DeepMind, users can now create entire songs, including vocals and album cover artwork. As with AI-generated videos, each track is limited to 30 seconds. The feature is initially launching in beta and is available to users ages 18 and older in several languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, and Japanese. No separate registration is required – access is automatically enabled for eligible accounts as part of a gradual rollout.

As with other chatbots, users simply describe what they want, whether it’s a genre, mood or idea. Google suggests claims like “Nostalgic Afrobeat song for my mom.” Photos or videos can also be uploaded, allowing Lyria 3 to automatically create matching music. If requested, Gemini can also design a suitable cover using Google’s Nano Banana image template, based on the text prompt or uploaded content. The result is a compact creative package that includes music, artwork, and a title, which can be downloaded or shared via a link. All generated songs include the invisible SynthID watermark, making AI-generated content recognizable.

What’s new in Lyria 3 Google has been testing its Lyria music model since 2023, including through projects like YouTube Dream Track and internal experiments. But as of now, it has not been integrated into the standard Gemini app. With Lyria 3, music creation is officially available to end users.

Compared to its predecessor, Lyria 3 is designed to produce more realistic and musically complex tracks. It offers greater control over style, tempo, and vocals, and can automatically generate lyrics based on user prompting. According to Google, the goal is not to deliver a flawless musical masterpiece but to support creative self-expression.

Integration with YouTube Lyria 3 will also be integrated into YouTube Dream Track. Creators will be able to use it to produce custom audio tracks for Shorts clips. The feature, which was initially limited to the US, is now rolling out to users around the world.
