What happens to Facebook pages?

Facebook reportedly intends to offer a cleaner, more button-less look to pages, as it recently tested a new design with a group of “small public figures” who use the Facebook mobile app. Facebook wants to roll out the design to a “broader group,” including pages belonging to actors, authors, creators, bands, and even books.

The new design not only eliminates the number of likes but even the like button.

Instead, pages will only display a follow button and follower count. Apparently, the number of followers refers to the number of people who actually receive page updates in their news feed, while with likes, many people may have liked the pages in the past, but now, they may no longer be able to follow them.

How to try new Facebook pages

If your Page is included in the current Facebook test, you will see an option to enable the new design experience. Only mobile users of the Facebook app will get the ability to subscribe or follow at this point. Once the invitation is accepted, your Page will drop likes and likes as well. But you’ll also gain a host of other features, including a simpler way to navigate to the newly added statistics section including top-performing posts.

TechCrunch claimed pages will receive fewer notifications, too, as Facebook will now collect relevant data — such as mentions and post reactions — when updates are sent. This test is now ongoing in the Facebook mobile app for those who see the blue background design with boxes (above).

Is this just a test for Facebook pages?

Facebook is not confirming whether the new update/design will be rolled out more widely. For now, it is only a test.
