An amateur recently presented a remarkable project to transform the PlayStation 4 Slim into a fully-functional portable gaming platform, in a move that brings to mind the era of Sony handheld devices such as the PSP and PS Vita, especially in light of the current PlayStation Portal reliance on streaming rather than local playback.
The project, implemented by the user known as wewillmakeitnow, was based on the PS4 Slim’s motherboard after carefully reducing its size to remove unnecessary parts, while at the same time working to improve the energy efficiency and cooling system. According to the project owner, the airflow and heat dissipation mechanism have been developed to ensure stable performance within the portable structure.

A 7-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1080p was chosen as the main display interface, while several USB ports were added to support connecting external storage units or other accessories, in addition to the possibility of connecting the device to external screens when needed.
As for the battery, its capacity is 130 watt-hours, so the device provides up to three hours of play with titles that consume less power, while the duration decreases to about an hour and a half with heavy games.
So far, there are no 3D printing files or official guide to redo the project, as it is still a personal experience not intended for commercial production.
