The Qena Bar Association Council, headed by Captain Ahmed Fathi Sweini, called on all lawyers to exercise the utmost calm and self-restraint, and to leave the case of their colleague’s murder to the competent investigation authorities, to ensure that just retribution is achieved, and not to be led by emotions or create confusion that does not serve the case.
An expected union escalation against the lawyers of those accused in the killing of the Qena lawyer
The Council affirmed, in an official statement, that the dignity of the union is the dignity of its members, and it will not allow any violation of the rights of any lawyer, stressing that any attack or abuse through social networking sites or elsewhere will be faced firmly, clarifying that freedom of opinion does not mean insult or defamation.
The statement added that the Council will take legal measures against any pages or accounts on social media that address the case of the late colleague in a way that offends or raises strife, and will refer them to the Public Prosecution, in a way that ensures the protection and preservation of the dignity of the legal profession.
Regarding the incident of the defendants’ lawyer’s assault, the Council explained that the Public Prosecution initiated investigations and charged him with displaying force, threatening violence, and possessing a knife, noting that a decision was issued to release him with a financial guarantee of 1,000 pounds.
The Syndicate Council revealed that it is preparing an urgent detailed memorandum of all the violations attributed to the lawyer complained against, in preparation for submitting it to Mr. Abdel Halim Allam, President of the Egyptian Bar Association and President of the Arab Lawyers Union, to take the necessary union measures against him in a way that preserves the dignity and values of the profession.
