OpenAI is preparing to launch a new, lower-cost subscription tier called ChatGPT Go, which provides expanded access to the GPT-5.2 model, along with a tenfold increase in the number of messages and file uploads compared to the free plan.

The company set the new subscription price at $8 per month, but this category will be supported by ads, just like the free plan. According to OpenAI’s announcement, ads on both the free plan and ChatGPT Go will begin showing to users within the United States in the first phase.

The company explained that the advertisements aim to support its vision of making artificial intelligence technologies available to everyone, by maintaining low and appropriate prices for different users. Conversely, users who want an ad-free experience will need to subscribe to higher tiers such as ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise.

OpenAI confirmed that it has completely separated the advertising system from the conversation experience within ChatGPT, stressing that advertising content will not affect the quality or neutrality of answers. To reinforce this trend, the company explained that it will not allow advertisers to access conversations, nor will it sell users’ personal data.

Users of the new Free and Go plans will also be able to disable ad personalization at any time, in addition to the ability to delete all previously collected data.

Advertisements will appear at the bottom of the interface with clear signs that distinguish them from regular content, and only products or services related to the context of the conversation will be displayed. OpenAI reiterates that the answers themselves will remain independent and uninfluenced by advertising, while continuing to avoid any content bias.

The ad-supported ChatGPT trial is scheduled to begin in the US in the coming weeks, providing a hands-on opportunity to test OpenAI’s commitment to its pledges on answer integrity and quality of experience.
