MSI is preparing to launch its first gaming monitor based on the fifth generation of QD-OLED technology, which is a 34-inch MPG 341CQR monitor. The price and expected availability date have been confirmed later during the current quarter of the year.

The MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 is another early example of Samsung Display’s latest QD-OLED panel technology. Thus, MSI joins the list of companies that have benefited from Gen 5 panels, such as Acer, Asus, and HP. The screen shares basic specifications with competing models (Predator X34 FE, HyperX Omen 34-inch, and ROG Swift OLED PG34WCDN); It comes with a display resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 (UWQHD) and an aspect ratio of 21:9 with 1800R curvature. The screen features brightness levels of up to 300 nits for the entire panel in SDR mode, 500 nits (at 10% APL), while peak brightness in HDR mode reaches 1,300 nits. It also supports a variable refresh rate (VRR) ranging between 48 and 360 Hz with support for the VESA Adaptive-Sync standard.

One of the most prominent technical improvements in this version is the adoption of an RGB stripe sub-pixel layout, which MSI promotes as a key factor in improving the quality of text and images by reducing “colour fringing” that was observed in previous 34-inch OLED screens such as the MAG 341CQP. This feature has become standard in all screens that use the same fifth generation panel.

Although the basic specifications are similar to competitors, MSI seeks to differentiate the MPG 341CQR through several characteristics. It comes with a smaller stand to save desk space, and includes advanced communication ports that include DisplayPort 2.1a (UBHR13.5), HDMI 2.1, and USB Type-C with a charging capacity of up to 98 watts, in addition to USB Type-A ports. The company also provided the screen with its own protection technologies, such as OLED Care 3.0 and AI Care Sensor, in addition to a protection layer it called “DarkArmor” (which is MSI’s designation for Samsung Display’s standard 3H coating). The screen is planned to be available in the United States later this quarter at a price of $1,099.
