The foldable version of the iPhone, which the Internet called the iPhone Fold, has become the focus of a huge number of leaks over the past years.
Although Samsung launched its first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, six years ago, and almost all brands followed suit with foldable phones, Apple has always chosen to move slowly when adopting new technologies.
Although this strategy has served the company historically, the current situation seems completely different, especially after Apple lagged behind the software giants in the artificial intelligence race, which led to widespread criticism and a state of confusion within its artificial intelligence department.
Apple’s foldable phone is expected to be one of the most anticipated devices from the company, and the price will be a decisive element in determining its success. According to a report issued by Fubon Research analyst Arthur Liao, the price of the iPhone Fold may reach the equivalent of the price of two iPhone 17 Pro phones combined, which is approximately $2,399.
The report indicates that the rise in component prices, with an expected decline in iPhone sales, may prompt Apple to price its first foldable devices by a significant margin. The company’s use of luxury materials in the device’s hinge and screen assembly raises the manufacturing cost significantly. The most prominent expected specifications of the iPhone Fold are as follows:
- 5.5-inch external screen, 7.8-inch internal screen
- Titanium and aluminum body
- Almost invisible fold line
- A perforated camera in the external screen, and a camera below the internal screen
- Rear cameras with two lenses: wide and ultra-wide only, without a telephoto lens
- A20 processor
Despite some previous missteps, Apple’s design team continues to provide a high level of quality, which enhances expectations that the iPhone Fold will come with a distinctive design.
But the most important question remains: Will Apple’s operating system be able to exploit the additional screen space to justify the really high price?
