The security update KB5074109 that Microsoft released for Windows 11 in January 2026 has begun to cause widespread concern among PC gamers, especially users of Nvidia GeForce cards.
Although the update brings more than 114 security fixes and general improvements, independent reports and forum posts have linked it to a noticeable drop in frame rate and performance instability on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 versions.
A number of users reported a decline in performance of between 15 and 20 frames per second in some games after installing the update, in addition to the appearance of sudden minute interruptions, short black screens during gameplay, and sometimes malfunctions in the graphics card definition under pressure.
In most cases, performance returned to normal only after removing the update or restoring a system backup before installing it.
In the same context, several websites and technical platforms have observed a recurring pattern of the problem, where the update is installed successfully without errors, but games that were running smoothly become slower and less responsive on GeForce devices.

So far, Microsoft has not listed this performance issue as a known bug on the official update page, nor has it released a fix specifically for Nvidia users.
For its part, Nvidia issued a new Game Ready definition with a corrective update, and some players indicated a relative improvement after installing it, but the most effective solution according to circulating experiences is still to delete the KB5074109 update or go back to a previous restore point, while pausing updates temporarily until Microsoft releases a modified version that addresses the problem permanently.
