Today, Thursday, the Nasr City Misdemeanor Court decided to postpone the trial of the defendants in the swimmer Youssef case to the February 26 session while continuing their detention.

The defendants in the swimmer Youssef case

The competent investigation authorities had previously referred the Chairman and members of the Swimming Federation’s Board of Directors, its Executive Director, the Chairman of the Federation’s Competitions Committee, the Tournament Director, the General Referee, and three of the rescue crew, to criminal trial, for wrongly causing the death of the child victim, Youssef Muhammad Ahmed Abdel Malik, by neglecting and failing to perform the tasks assigned to them, seriously breaching the principles of their job, and endangering the lives of the children participating in the Republic Swimming Championship.

The report of the Forensic Medicine Department and the Pathology Laboratory of samples taken from the body of the victim, the child swimmer Youssef Muhammad Ahmed Abdel Malik, revealed that his body was free of any disease or stimulant or narcotic substances, and that death was attributed to asphyxia by drowning, as a result of the victim losing consciousness after the end of the race and falling to the bottom of the pool, and remaining alive for a period of time that was sufficient for his lungs and respiratory tracts to fill with water, and the occurrence of cardiac arrest and complete failure. respiratory functions, and death occurs.

The forensic doctor testified that the medical measures taken before him to try to help him at the scene of the incident were diligent attempts to bring him back to life – and did not resemble any negligence – but they were not successful due to the long period of time he remained unconscious at the bottom of the pool, which was consistent with what was testified by all of the doctors and paramedics who made attempts to help the victim after he was extracted from the pool, and among them was one of the swimmers’ parents, a consultant doctor specializing in pediatric cardiology.
