Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs and Political Communication, received Milton Dick, Speaker of the Australian Federal House of Representatives, this morning, Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs, in Kasr Al-Aini.

The Ministry of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs said in a statement today that the visit comes as a continuation of the return of the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries, taking into account that the visit of the Speaker of the Australian Parliament to Egypt is the first of its kind since the establishment of relations.

For his part, Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, Minister of Parliamentary, Legal Affairs and Political Communication, stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries in international forums, most notably the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and exchanging visions on issues of common interest, which contributes to supporting the multilateral parliamentary dialogue.

In this context, Minister Mahmoud Fawzi pointed out the important role that the Permanent Joint Parliamentary Committee on Defence, Foreign Affairs and Trade can play in examining ways to remove trade obstacles that limit the access of Egyptian products, especially agricultural products, to the Australian market.

During the meeting, Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi stressed welcoming Australia’s decision to recognize the Palestinian state, and stressed the importance of formulating a clear vision for cooperation in order to capitalize on the growing international momentum towards the Palestinian issue to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and enable the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and establish their independent state on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting witnessed the Australian side being urged to engage effectively in implementing the Gaza reconstruction plan in its three stages, whether by endorsing and supporting it at the political level, or by motivating Australian companies to participate seriously in the reconstruction efforts in light of Australia’s long history in the field of prefabricated homes and waste recycling.

The Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs expressed the Egyptian government’s condolences to the government and people of Australia over the events of the armed attack that took place on Bondi Beach in Sydney, and emphasized Egypt’s categorical rejection of all forms of violence and extremism and its firm position calling for concerted international efforts to confront these phenomena.

Counselor Mahmoud Fawzi, Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Affairs, praised the Youth Protection Law, which protects children under 16 years of age from the dangers of spending extended hours on social media, pointing out that Australia has been able to precede everyone else globally in this field, with an experience that works to protect children health-wise, psychologically, and socially. Therefore, the Australian experience in this regard is a pioneering experience that may be an inspiring model for all countries of the world to emulate.
For his part, the Speaker of the Australian Parliament affirmed his full appreciation for the pivotal role that Egypt plays in its regional environment and at the international level, especially on important issues such as the Middle East issue and nuclear non-proliferation issues, expressing his desire to enhance joint cooperation, whether directly with the Egyptian Parliament or within the framework of coordination in international forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
