Stephen Zunes, professor of political science, confirmed that the American strategy based on bombing did not succeed in imposing a real settlement in favor of Washington, explaining that history proves that the ability to harm the opponent does not necessarily mean achieving victory or imposing political will on him.
Zunes pointed out, during an intervention on the “Cairo News” channel, that Iran It adopts a clear vision that considers what it is doing to be a sovereign right, whether with regard to uranium enrichment or developing missile capabilities and supporting its allies in the region, pointing out that these files represent the core of the dispute with the United States, which seeks to impose a kind of Iranian surrender.
He added that the Iranian leadership appears prepared to bear great human and material losses, as part of what it considers to be a defense of its sovereignty, explaining that this approach reinforces its internal narrative, even in light of the damage being caused to citizens.
He stressed that the conflict is still open, with each party adhering to its basic positions, which reduces the chances of reaching a quick solution, and makes the confrontation likely to continue without a clear resolution in the near term.
