
Dr. Muhammad Ali Fahim, head of the Climate Change Information Center, warned of the weather conditions during the coming hours, as the mist begins to appear just before dawn, and continues until the early hours of the morning, especially during Saturdays and Sundays, with the extent of its concentration varying from day to day according to weather changes.
Most affected areas
Fahim added during his statements that the areas most affected by Shaboura include parts of the north of the republic and the governorates of Lower Egypt, in addition to a number of highways, as well as areas in North Sinai, which may cause a sharp decline in horizontal visibility levels and increase the risks of driving.
In this context, the Head of the Climate Change Information Center pointed out that the period from dawn until nine in the morning is considered the most dangerous, calling on vehicle drivers to be extremely careful while driving, and to adhere to traffic safety instructions.
Today’s weather
For its part, the General Authority of Meteorology announced details of the expected weather conditions during the period from today, Saturday, January 17, 2026, until Wednesday, January 21, 2026, stressing that the country will witness very cold weather in the early morning, tending to be warm during the day, and very cold at night in most parts.
The authority indicated that frost had formed on crops in the regions of northern Upper Egypt, central Sinai, and the Western Desert. This requires taking the necessary measures to protect agricultural crops.
The Meteorological Authority warned of water mist forming as of 10:30 a.m. on some agricultural and highway roads near bodies of water, especially roads leading to and from the north of the country as far as Greater Cairo, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, and it may be dense at times on some roads.
The Authority pointed out that there are chances of light to moderate rain on Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18, on areas of the northern coasts and northern Lower Egypt, at intermittent intervals.
The Meteorological Authority noted the presence of wind activity during the period from Sunday, January 18, until Wednesday, January 21, on areas of the northern coasts, Lower Egypt, and South Sinai, at intermittent periods.
Weather conditions and temperatures expected today, Saturday
Cairo records 20 degrees Celsius for high and 12 for low, while the Administrative Capital records 20 for high and 10 for low, and 6 October City records 21 for high and 10 for low.
In Lower Egypt, Alexandria recorded 19 for the Great and 12 for the Minor, Tanta recorded 18 for the Great and 11 for the Minor, and Mansoura recorded 20 for the Great and 11 for the Minor.
In the governorates of Upper Egypt, Fayoum recorded 20 degrees for high and 8 for low, Beni Suef recorded 20 for high and 7 for low, and Minya and Assiut recorded 21 for high and 6 for low, while temperatures rose relatively as we headed south, as Luxor recorded 24 for high and 9 for low, and Qena 23 for high and 9 for low.
As for the cities of the Red Sea and South Sinai, Sharm El Sheikh recorded 23 degrees for high and 15 for low, Marsa Alam 24 for high and 14 for low, and Shalatin 26 for high and 15 for low.
In central Sinai, St. Catherine records a noticeable drop in temperatures, with the lowest reaching only two degrees Celsius, which reflects the extreme cold in those areas.
