Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education and Technical Education, said that incidents of child abuse are individual and very unfortunate, and there are firm and strong controls being taken, and coordination is ongoing with the Ministries of Interior and Justice, saying: It will not be acceptable under any circumstances for any sick person to approach our children and our children above all.
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif added: I felt disturbed when my grandson is 4 years old, and in every incident I see my grandson, and the matter will not be tolerated. We have taken 17 decisions in a periodic letter that was directed to all schools, and there are committees that work continuously daily to implement these measures.
Regarding the conditions inside government schools, the Minister of Education said: There is no need to talk about the safety of our children, and government schools are witnessing continuous monitoring, and there are committees that visit them on an ongoing basis, and directors of departments and directorates work in the field with our children inside schools, not offices, and all procedures are implemented within government schools decisively, and some of these schools currently have cameras, and the camera system is being completed, indicating that the Ministry of Finance meets all education needs.
A plan to deal with incidents of child abuse in schools
The Minister of Education added: We have 62 thousand schools, but the matter did not reach the level of being a phenomenon, and we have 3 individual incidents, and some supervisory procedures in schools were negligent, and there are administrative measures being taken against officials in schools that witnessed such incidents.
The Minister of Education confirmed that the decision of financial and administrative supervision is stronger than withdrawing school licenses, explaining that withdrawing a school license requires transferring students to other schools, which is not a difficult procedure, but the school owner has the right to sell it. However, financial and administrative supervision leaves the school owner completely out of the matter.
Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif explained that there are controls that have been in place for years for opening private schools, and there are new controls that require previous experience in education, stressing that the ministry is working to launch an awareness campaign in coordination with several other ministries, in addition to introducing some awareness guidelines into the educational curricula to raise awareness among our children.
