Robert Pattillo, a member of the US Democratic Party, said that diplomacy and economic sanctions that the Democratic Party has long called for represent the most effective means of dealing with the Iranian nuclear file, stressing that escalation alone will not achieve the desired results, especially in light of Iran reaching high levels of uranium enrichment and possessing hundreds of kilograms of enriched uranium.
Robert Pattillo: Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran is a disaster
Pattillo added, during his statements on the “Eye on America” program, presented by the journalist Raghda Mounir, on the “Cairo News” screen, that US President Donald Trump constantly reiterates his willingness to sit at the negotiating table, but at the same time he withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2015, and continued to make hostile statements towards the Iranian regime, stressing that Tehran is hostile to the United States, and pointing to the fall of a large number of Iranians at the hands of the Iranian regime itself, according to his description.
The member of the American Democratic Party explained that these statements raise questions about the extent of the American administration’s seriousness in helping the Iranian people or reaching a real settlement, pointing out that the 2015 agreement represented the best path to ensuring regional stability.
He added that what is happening currently is not new, as the negotiations had already been completed more than a decade ago, before the US President withdrew from them.
Pattillo pointed out that ambiguity still surrounds the extent of Iran’s commitment to its previous pledges, in addition to the lack of available information about some Iranian nuclear facilities, considering that withdrawing from the nuclear agreement was a “disastrous” step by all standards. Robert Pattillo concluded his statements by emphasizing his hope that the United States will return to the 2015 agreement, as it is the most effective option for achieving peace and stability in the region, and reducing the risks of escalation and military confrontation.
