The Sohag Media Complex, headed by Iman Imam, director of the complex, organized an awareness symposium under the title: For a Safe Childhood… Together We Face Harassment, in the conference hall in the Al-Azhar district of Sohag, in cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Foundation and Sohag University.

Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Hosni pointed out the necessity of educating young people about modesty, and developing their awareness that the body is a trust that must be preserved, especially in light of the great openness witnessed by modern means of communication.

He stressed that the Islamic religion has set clear rules for protecting and protecting children, but the role of the family and school remains the basis for educating him and protecting his innocence.

The meeting comes within the activities of the media campaign launched by the Internal Media Sector of the State Information Service, led by journalist Diaa Rashwan, Chairman of the State Information Service, and supervised by Dr. Ahmed Yahya, Head of the Sector, under the slogan “Protecting them is our duty” with the aim of enhancing awareness of safe childhood and protecting young people from the dangers of exploitation and harassment.

The symposium witnessed a large presence of primary and middle school students, a number of deans of Al-Azhar institutes and female teachers, in addition to the participation of His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Hosni, head of the Al-Azhar region in Sohag, and Dr. Tariq Zaki, head of the Psychology Department at the Faculty of Arts, Sohag University.

Iman Imam began the meeting by emphasizing the awareness-raising role of the State Information Service in conveying the state’s vision and messages to the public of all categories, as well as the importance of direct communication in understanding citizens’ needs and conveying them to decision-makers.

She explained that child molestation is one of the most dangerous forms of violence that threatens the security of society, due to its long-term psychological effects on the child, stressing that protecting children is a shared responsibility between the family, school, and community institutions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tariq Zaki explained the importance of building a healthy and aware personality in children, capable of distinguishing between correct and wrong behavior, stressing that confronting harassment requires continuous cooperation between educational institutions and families.

He added that the concept of harassment goes beyond being a wrongful act to being an assault that leaves long-term psychological effects, stressing that recent studies recommend early awareness, opening channels of dialogue with children, and training them to understand safe boundaries in dealing with others.

At the conclusion of the symposium, the participants stressed that protecting children begins with awareness and shared responsibility among all members of society, to ensure a safe environment that supports a healthy upbringing and a safer future for young people.
