Today, Sunday, the plenary session of the Senate, headed by Counselor Essam El-Din Farid, will discuss the request of Representative Mohamed Salah El-Badry, and more than twenty members, to clarify the government’s policy regarding the mechanisms for implementing the treatment system at state expense in light of the increasing prices of medical supplies and medicines.
The Senate discusses the government’s policy regarding implementing treatment at state expense
In turn, the representative indicated in the explanatory memorandum for the request that the treatment system at state expense is one of the most important social protection mechanisms that the state guarantees for incapable citizens, and it represents a basic pillar for ensuring that patients obtain their constitutional right to health care and treatment without financial burdens that exceed their capacity, pointing out that this system has contributed over many years to treating millions of citizens, relieving them and their families, and supporting government and university hospitals in performing their humanitarian and medical role.
He continued: In light of the current economic changes, and the resulting successive and significant increases in the prices of medicines, medical supplies, and therapeutic consumables, the financial values specified in treatment decisions at state expense have become disproportionate to the actual cost of treatment, which has led to many of the decisions issued to patients no longer being sufficient to complete their treatment plans.
