The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported today that the president of Somaliland is planning an official visit to Israel next month, after the alleged and illegal recognition by Israel of the region as a state.
Reports indicated that the visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the region and Israel, and discuss ways of cooperation in various fields, without revealing additional details about the visit’s program or the issues that will be discussed during the official meetings.
Israel’s recognition of so-called Somaliland is a blatant aggression
In a related context, Ambassador Ihab Awad, Egypt’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations and its representative to the UN Security Council, said that Israel’s recognition of so-called Somaliland is a blatant assault on Somalia’s sovereignty and the unity and sovereignty of its lands.
The Egyptian representative added during a Security Council session on Israel’s recognition of Somaliland: Somalia faces new and unprecedented challenges, and we expect international rejection of efforts that are against Somaliland’s interests to expand in light of recent developments.
