Dr. Nazir Ayyad, the Mufti of the Republic, answered a question that read to him: What is the ruling on a patient using artificial intelligence systems to diagnose diseases without actually detecting them and determining medications without the intervention of a specialist doctor?
Statement of the purpose of using artificial intelligence tools
The Mufti said on Dar’s official website Fatwa Egyptian: Using artificial intelligence applications to definitively diagnose diseases without real detection and determine medications without the intervention or supervision of a specialist doctor – forbidden by law. Because this exposes oneself to harm and destruction, and violates the principle of jurisdiction, which Islamic law came to preserve.
The Mufti stressed that the contemporary reality is witnessing an unprecedented technical boom that has invaded various areas of life, led by artificial intelligence, with the widespread transformation it has brought about in the ways of thinking, working, and dealing with knowledge. This development aims to enable computers to perform the tasks performed by the human mind, by understanding the nature of human intelligence and creating programs capable of simulating its behavior characterized by agility and intelligence.
