Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, inspected Al-Khanka Hospital for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment in Qalyubia Governorate, as part of his ongoing field tours to follow up on the implementation of construction projects and determine the quality of medical services provided to patients in various governorates.
The Minister of Health directs the study of transforming Al-Khanka Hospital into the first medical city for addiction treatment and elderly care
The Minister began his visit by reviewing the latest developments in the hospital’s development plan, which includes raising the efficiency of 30 wards to serve about 1,500 patients. He directed the study of including the plan within joint projects with the “Long Live Egypt” Fund to support the improvement of health services. He also directed the development of the hospital, located on an area of 171 acres that includes 64 buildings on 69 acres, to become the first integrated medical city specializing in mental health, addiction treatment, and elderly care.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the ministry’s official spokesman, said that the minister inspected the outpatient clinics building, which serves about 200 patients daily through various specialties, including children and adolescents, women’s health, psychology, and addiction, in addition to the radiology department, to ensure regular workflow.
He continued that the minister inspected a new building under construction that includes outpatient clinics, housing for doctors, and an administrative part, directing the speedy completion of the work during the first quarter of 2026, with an emphasis on taking legal measures against any negligence that delays implementation.
Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that during the Minister’s visit to the “Psychological 3” and “Psychological 11” departments for men, he directed the follow-up to raise the efficiency of the departments, maintain the roofs and infrastructure, provide non-medical furniture, and pay attention to green spaces to ensure a suitable healthy environment. He was also keen to ensure the readiness of the departments and increase the number of blankets and heavy clothes for patients with the arrival of winter, as the capacity of each department is between 50 and 60 patients.
The Minister was accompanied on the tour by Dr. Peter Wagih, Assistant Minister for Therapeutic Affairs, Dr. Sherif Mustafa, Assistant Minister for National Projects, Dr. Mohamed Ramadan, Head of the Central Administration for Financial and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Ayman Abbas, Head of the Central Administration of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, and Dr. Ahmed El-Nahhas, Head of the Central Administration of the National Council for Mental Health.
