Fabrice Kamboulev, CEO of the French company Renault, said that he will make every effort to produce the Renault 4 Savane 4×4 concept car in the coming weeks, as a distinctive addition to the range of new Renault small electric cars.

Renault is preparing to produce the all-wheel drive Renault 4 Savane within weeks

In his speech at the 2026 Car of the Year awards ceremony in Barcelona, Kambolev explained that the Savane will enhance the appeal of the Renault 4 in some northern European countries where the all-wheel drive system is preferred.

The four-wheel drive car relies on an additional electric motor to operate the rear axle, instead of the traditional four-wheel drive system.

Kambolev noted that the only delay in making the decision so far has been due to setting strategic priorities.

The Renault 4 comes after the Renault 5, and is put on the market before the new Renault Twingo, to be one of three electric cars with a classic character inspired by some previous Renault icons.

However, Kambolev stated that “classicism is not the norm” for Renault in its future models, and that next-generation models in higher segments will be more forward-looking and will not rely on the past.
