The Italian Prime Minister said Georgia Meloni The future of Italy and Europe depends on Africa’s stability and prosperity, stressing that the continent occupies a central place in the evolving global system.
In her speech before the thirty-ninth ordinary session of the African Union Conference in Addis Ababa, Meloni stressed that Italy will continue to play its role towards Africa, as the future of Italy and Europe depends on a safe, prosperous and peaceful Africa.

Referring to the partnership between Italy and Africa and the Italian Mattei Plan for development in Africa, Meloni said, “This is a strategy that we built together, because we do not consider the Mattei Plan to be an Italian plan for Africa, but rather an Italian contribution to the African agenda, with a special focus this year on water-related projects.”
Meloni indicated that the plan is an open platform to put technical knowledge, technologies and investments in the service of the goals set by the African Union within the 2063 Agenda.
Regarding debt relief and financial cooperation, Meloni confirmed that Italy will launch a large-scale debt conversion program for African countries, which includes, among its main points, the full conversion of the debts of the most fragile and vulnerable countries into investments.
At the conclusion of her speech, Meloni stressed that Italy and Europe cannot think about the future without taking Africa into account because the future of Europe depends on the future of the African continent.
