The Egyptian Basketball Federation issued an official statement regarding the sanctions imposed on Al-Ittihad Alexandria and Al-Ahly clubs, following the events witnessed in the second leg of the Al-Muttala League final – men, which was held on Monday, November 24, after reviewing the reports of the referees and observers.
First: Al-Ittihad Club of Alexandria penalties
Player Malek Taha was suspended until the end of the season and fined 15,000 pounds.
Player Farouk Mohamed was suspended for two matches and fined 5,000 pounds.
Administrative suspension Jaber Beckham for two matches and a fine of 1,000 pounds.
Al-Ittihad fans were fined 100,000 pounds for insulting them and throwing water bottles at Al-Ahly players after the end of the match.
The club was fined 100,000 pounds due to the men’s team withdrawing from the match.
Transferring 3 Al-Ittihad matches outside its stadium in the Basketball Association tournaments, to be held without an audience.
Second: Al-Ahly Club penalties
Players Omar Hatem, Asaad Hindawi, and Aser Ahmed were suspended for two matches each, with each player fined 5,000 pounds for clashing with Al-Ittihad players.
Al-Ahly fans were fined 50,000 pounds for insults directed at Al-Ittihad players after the end of the match.
Technical director Ibrahim El Gamal was suspended for two matches and fined 5,000 pounds.
Third: Additional decisions
The match result was approved with Al-Ahly winning 20-0 due to the withdrawal and the absence of 5 Al-Ittihad players on the field.
Notifying “Tazkarti” Company to prevent Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahly fans attending the match from attending any match for a period of 3 months.
The two clubs will bear the value of the damage inside the hall according to the report of its director.
The Egyptian Basketball Federation, headed by Mr. Amr Moselhy, stressed the need for clubs, players, technical and administrative bodies, and fans to adhere to sporting values and self-control inside and outside the court, stressing that what happened does not reflect the true spirit of Egyptian sports and hinders efforts to gradually return fans to the halls. The Federation also confirmed that all necessary measures will continue to be taken to ensure discipline and protect the principles of the Egyptian game and sports.
