Dr. Abbas Shoman, Secretary-General of the Council of Senior Scholars at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, said that someone’s claim that some Al-Azhar scholars have converted to Shiism is a pure lie, to which we have become accustomed to people like him.
Secretary of the Senior Scholars: The claim that some Al-Azhar scholars are Shiites is a complete lie to which we have become accustomed
He wrote via Hasaya on Facebook: Someone’s claim that some Al-Azhar scholars have converted to Shiism is a complete lie to which we have become accustomed to people like him. There is a difference between respecting another’s belief and embracing it. Oh, so understand.
He continued in another post: Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and its venerable scholars will not pay attention to those deviant and extremist voices that do not want unity or good for our Islamic nation, and Al-Azhar will continue its path in carrying out its purposeful message with those loyal to this religion in order to unite the nation’s scholars and bring together their wise people from various sects and schools of Islamic thought at one dialogue table to reunite the nation and unify its ranks.
He continued: As for those petty personalities who seek to disturb the relationship between Sunnis and Shiites, their sick plans and statements to spread strife and division, through false claims and sick fantasies, have become known to everyone. Do not pay attention to their words, and put them in the position they chose for themselves: the position of extremism and intellectual foolishness.
Meanwhile, Dar Al-Ilm by the Shiite Imam Al-Khoei in Najaf, Iraq, said that not everyone who belongs to the seminary, ascends to a pulpit, makes a statement, or otherwise is considered a spokesman on its behalf.
An official statement issued by Dar al-Ilm by Imam al-Khoei in Najaf, under the title “Indeed, in this is a reminder for whoever has a heart or listens while he is a martyr,” said that, based on religious and moral responsibility, and out of concern for clarity of vision and the maintenance of general Islamic awareness, Dar al-Ilm affirms The knowledge of Imam Al-Khoei in the Holy City of Najaf is that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, throughout its extended history, will remain a fundamental pillar of comprehensive Islamic work, making a profound contribution to serving the issues of the Islamic nation and preserving its religious fabric, adhering to its moderate approach and its sober scientific independence, as witnessed by the career of its senior scholars, not the least of whom is His Eminence the Great Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb.
The statement added that, in this context, the history of the seminary in Najaf Al-Ashraf provides a living witness to the depth of mutual respect between Islamic sects, and the constant endeavor to enhance commonalities under the banner of Islam, an approach that was not built except with reason, wisdom, and morals, and was confirmed by our supreme authority, represented by His Eminence the Supreme Authority Imam al-Sistani (may his life be long), as a guarantee for preserving the unity and diversity of the nation.
