The Galaxy Z TriFold was subjected to a rigorous hardness test that revealed a notable weakness compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7. In a bending test, the phone failed to withstand the pressure, with pixels damaged and the bottom of the right hinge breaking off. While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 showed a better ability to withstand similar bends.
The TriFold also underwent scratch, fire, and dust tests, and had particular issues when exposed to sand in a pocket, with a grinding sound coming from the hinges as the phone was fully opened and closed.
However, Samsung confirmed the device’s ability to withstand up to 200,000 complete folding operations without breaking, noting that pressure from the opposite direction may cause unwanted bending of the thin battery.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be on the market in early 2026, but it remains less durable than the previous version in the face of unusual bends and pressures.
